...a moment in the life

A sampling of what critics and audiences have said and written about The Futility of Hope:

“Terrific.” “Mark-Brian Sonna has outdone himself with ‘The Futility of Hope.’  I feel it's his best play ever.  It's very well-written and well-acted, and it both stimulates the brain and moves the heart.”  “I was on the edge of my seat the entire time wondering how the conflict was going to be resolved.  The ending took me by surprise because I didn’t expect it, but it was perfect and very real.  There’s much truth in this play.” “Timeless.”  “An outstanding evening of theatre. A very well crafted and acted dramedy.” “Congratulations to all involved. This is what theatre should be. It makes you laugh, stirs up emotions, and provides fodder for discussion afterward.”  "The scene in which Steve debates Hope on supposed Biblical references to homosexuality is nicely crafted and deftly played by Blake and Villamil." "I'm still haunted by the scene in the second act...Brilliant." "5 stars - Phenomenally well written and well acted. It's challenging and funny and heartfelt. I highly recommend this play!" "Sonna wrote about the way we live our lives, the relationships we attempt to fit into our lifestyle, and the realizations and adjustments that must occur in order to keep hope alive."*

The Futility of Hope

March 21 – April 20, 2013

Hope is a teen age girl who is placed in her biological father's home when her mother passes away. The problem is her father is gay and she was raised by her mother to be very conservative and intolerant of homosexuality. Her father is non-religious and very accustomed to his carefree lifestyle and finds himself burdened with a teen he had no say in raising. Will the two ever be able to adapt or has too much time elapsed for them to be able to change? World Premiere.
