...a moment in the life

"Promising first outing for funny new R-rated 'Beulaville Baptist' show... it provides a lot of fun... Charles Ballinger [the director] keeps the comedy crackling...you do get a cast that will do anything for a joke with laugh-out-loud results"
Nancy Churnin, Dallas Morning News.

Who would have thought that Macbeth could be hilarious! Definitely an adult show - But undeniably the funniest version of Macbeth ever! Brushing up on your Macbeth & classic Shakespearean quotes will increase the fun factor of this twisted abbreviated 'Version' of Beulaville's interpretation of a 'Classic!'"

The Beulaville Baptist Book Club Presents: Macbeth! is about a book club in the fictional Texas town of Beulaville, Texas. After the success of the “Bur-Less-Q Nutcracker!” which they did the prior December, the women of the book club have discovered that a show can generate quite a bit of cash so they decided to copy what every major city is doing and mount a Shakespeare play during the summer. But instead of doing what other cities do by doing it outdoors, they decide to hold it indoors and call it “Shakespeare not in the Park.” They choose Macbeth because it  has a small cast and it has several good women’s roles that they think they might be able to play so as to save on the expense of hiring professional actors. Dickey, the token male member is given the titular role. Since they know nothing about theatre they hire a director from Dallas who brings along another actor to play all the other male roles. A crisis erupts when on the night of the premiere they discover that the theatre was double booked with the neighboring town’s Tap & Twirl competition, and they only have 40 minutes to present the entire play! The end result is an unintentional comical rendition of the Shakespearean tragedy, using some of the bard’s actual language, tap dancing, maracas, singing, and baton twirling as a weapon. The play is rated R mostly due to language.

The Beulaville Baptist Book Club Presents: Macbeth!  Is a spin off from the award winning The Beulaville Baptist Book Club Presents: A Bur-Less-Q Nutcracker!  which won the coveted 2014 National Goldstar Nutcracker (aka the “Nutty”) Award and received 8 Broadwayworld nominations including Best Play of the year. Most of the original cast from the award winning production is reprising their roles and include:  Mark-Brian Sonna as Dickey, Laura Lutz Jones as Sylvia, Margaret Harrington as Wilma, and Barbara McIntyre as Madge.  Joining the cast for this production is Latreisha Lilly as Ramona, David Swanner as the actor Richard, and Patrick Lynwood Henry as the director Simon. The play is directed by Charles Ballinger who directed last year’s award winning production and is a former artistic director of Casa Manana.
