"Maríanela works well as a theater piece in the intimate atmosphere of Addison’s Stone Cottage Theater in this staging directed by Charles Ballinger...The intimate setting draws us close to Marianela and her sorrowful plight, and we can’t help but be deeply moved....bring a hanky and your love of great a cappella singing. Maríanela offers a wonderful evening of entertainment."

"MBS Productions has proven you don’t need thousand-dollar sets to put on a top quality production. I can actually say this will go on my list of one of the better shows I’ve seen this year and should make it on your list to go see. "

A play with songs.
Marianela is a poor illiterate woman who leads a life of infectious joy and singing. Everyone who comes in contact with her is transformed and falls in love with her. She works as a “seeing” eye person for a young man, Pablo, who lost his sight at birth. Pablo falls in love with her even though he is engaged to Florentine. Florentine’s family has arranged for an expensive and experimental surgery for him to cure his blindness with the condition that he goes through with the marriage. Will Pablo choose Marianela or his sight?
This visionary tale of love and choices incorporate Sprituals, Slave Songs, and songs from the 1800's..
The play is based on the most celebrated and beloved 18th century Spanish novel and will receive its World Premiere Adaptation/Translation on our stage. Adapted and translated by Mark-Brian Sonna with music from the 19th and 18th centuries.
Shows are Thursday through Saturday at 8 PM. Added shows on Saturday, April 19 at 2 PM, and Wednesday, April 16 at 8 PM.
